Diana Hogan is a third generation farmer from the Mefford Family Farms in Frankfort, Kentucky. It’s a small operation of 70 cattle and she has her hands full managing the 300-acres full-time, year-round. With the help of some friendly neighbors and her Mom, Bettie, Diana has been selling beef at the Franklin County Farmers Market for 15 years.

WHAT IS BELGIAN BLUE BEEF? Belgian Blue beef is very lean with low cholesterol and fat content, but has high moisture content and fine, tender muscle fibers. As an added benefit, the cattle are grass fed, without the use of any growth hormones, steroids or preventative antibiotics. Their cattle are raised as naturally as possible, grazing on rolling hills of pasture in spring, summer and fall and munching on hay during the winter months.

CUSTOMER FAVORITES? Belgian Blue beef (any cut), bread, eggs and honey

WHY BUY LOCAL? “As individuals you need to know where your food comes from and you can’t get that at the supermarket. When you buy from us, you know you’re getting local, lean, natural beef. You know exactly where it comes from when you buy it direct from us. And we take pride in our products and the natural growing process.”

Stop by her booth at the Franklin County Farmers Market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7am-12pm!
